For Lent – Just give it up. When we were kids, candy was the “go to” thing to give up. Adults tend to progress from candy to more adult consumables such as smoking, alcohol, or the cousin to candy…desserts and snacking between meals.
I’d like to offer a list of things you should consider giving up for Lent, and then possibly giving up for the rest of your life as well. It’s going to push you to go deeper and out of your comfort zone but isn’t that what Lent is about? Giving up on your attachments so there is more room for God in your heart?
Just a week ago, in the Gospel reading, Jesus gave us a list of human faults that come from within us, from our heart, that we need to work on.. “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander , pride, foolishness. All these evils things come from within, and they defile man.” Mark 7: 21-23
Pick your predominant fault that comes from within you and get to work eradicating it this Lent. Don’t forget the power of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to help you on your journey.
Ready? Pick One.
