Confession is like weeding a garden

Confession is like weeding a garden. It’s got to be done on a regular schedule! Otherwise vices, like weeds will take root, grow and choke out your sanctity. If you’ve ever weeded a garden you know you can’t take a break because the weeds are relentless!

If you weed out your sins early and often, it allows the fruits of the Holy Spirit to grow to their full potential. Christ lists “what comes from within” in today’s (2/7/18) Gospel – Mark 7:14-23. “But what comes out of the man, that is what defiles him. From within the man, from his heart, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile.”

Let’s focus in on just this phrase. “From within man, from his heart comes evil thoughts”, then add this saying which has been attributed to many people but very applicable to today’s Gospel.
